This project thread is the Aerotech Extra 300 Midwing being built by Tony Robinson. Tony is an IMAC competitor winning IMAC UK overall champion 2004,2005, he has a lot of experience with model aircraft after being in the hobby for almost six years with constant building and flying. Tony is also engine literate having spent most of his life around engines working as an automotive senior diagnostic technician for Renault UK.

The Extra Tony is in the process of building is an 40% Aerotech Extra 300 (Midwing). This  Extra has two servos on each aileron, one servo on each elevator and two servos on the rudder, these will be high torque digital servos, 8 servos in total will be used excluding the throttle servo which will be a standard servo. These servos will controlled by two 9 channel PCM receivers. The engine Tony is to install is a ZDZ 160 RVJ (160cc Petrol engine) possibly flying with two kans.

This Midwing Extra is manufactured by Aerotech, Aerotech is a large scale model aeroplane company based in Florida, USA. The 42% Extra 300 Mid Wing first arrived out of the factory on 04/10/2006. This Extra is the mid wing version, there have been many types of Extra through the years however the Extra 300S and 330S seemed to dominate the market back when the Extra was first released in 1987 it was designed by retired aerobatics pilot Walter Extra. It soon turned into a truly iconic aeroplane powered by a Lycoming IO-580 producing 300 horsepower. The Extra soon took off with aerobatic pilots all over the world, one the most famous Extra pilots was Patty Wagstaff.

This project thread will take you through several stages of the build, complete with pictures, articles, design tips and the occasional video.
